This week the world is horrified by images of a Kurdish toddler, Aylan Kurdi, who drowned in his family's attempt to flee violence in Syria. Aylan and his family were just a few among millions of people around the world who are fleeing their home countries due to war, violence and economic hardship. This shocking images of three-year-old Aylan were a stark reminder that there are so many people in this world that desperately need help. But what is one to do?
The UK's Independent news published a really helpful article on Five practical ways you can help refugees trying to find safety in Europe. Among the suggestions, the article recommends a handful of NGO's to which you can make a donation, including Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and World Vision. Another great organization not on their list is the UN's World Food Programme.
The article also lists organizations that are accepting in-kind donations such as books and toys. In fact, an Amazon wish list has been set up for people to buy shoes, sleeping bags and other items to be delivered to refugees.
Let us know if you have any other idea for helping the plight of refugees around the world.
